A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a man shot outside a petrol station in Chelmsford.

John Pordage, 34, was shot in the chest outside the BP garage in Baddow Road, at about 02:10 BST on Saturday. A post-mortem exam found he died of his wound.

The 16-year old from Chelmsford was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

Police investigating the death have also said they want to speak to Saul Stanley, 18, and Bradley Blundell, 17, who both have links to Chelmsford.

Mr Pordage was a keen bodybuilder who worked as an electrician for a fire alarm company.

He was described as a "big personality" with a "friendly nature" by his mother Sue Wilson.

"He was fun-loving and wore his heart on his sleeve," she said.

"John loved working out at the gym and was into healthy eating. He was also an accomplished artist who loved creativity and design.

"We are going to miss him so very much. Words cannot describe the pain I am going through right now."

A post-mortem examination found Mr Pordage died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.
