Dear American Little Mix fans, let us explain Greggs...

Jade Thirwall and Greggs

Dear America,

We are guessing you have never tasted a steak bake.

But Jade Thirlwall of Little Mix has.

You see, for all the British institutions you hear about in the US, word of Greggs is yet to cross the Atlantic.

But as the likes of In-N-Out Burger and Chipotle make their way to British streets, so Greggs will come to yours.

And while Greggs' food, (at its most simple) is a combination of meat, shockingly hot sauce and a whole lot of pastry, its produce is so influential Jade confused a car park for a pasty shop on Tuesday. Wishful thinking, Jade.

It's understandable if you know Greggs - which a lot of US fans did not.

You may see signs for "salads" and "soups" in the window but the real (only) reason to visit a Greggs is for its bakes. Puff pastry and lots of it.

This is a store that puts things in pastry that no one else would. Ever.

Anyone want a vegetable katsu bake? Who fancies a chicken and sweet potato bake?

The answer to both of these questions? BRITISH PEOPLE.

And when Greggs retweeted Jade's international mistake with the caption "the eyes see what the heart wants", we commend both their PR team. And also, now we want a pasty too.

And while we're trying to explain the beauty of Greggs, perhaps we can talk you through the beauty of some other British delicacies?

Black pudding (it is made from blood), spotted dick (which is really not as rude as it sounds), mushy peas (like other peas but really squashed) and scotch eggs (an egg trying to be extra by wearing a little coat made from sausage) make British people equally happy.

British people even forgave Greggs when they tried to tell us that you could lose weight by eating their food.

You wouldn't eat a Twinkie as part of a calorie-controlled diet and the same applies to a sausage and bean melt.

Kind regards,

British people

PS. Other pastry based products are available.

PPS. We are sure the salads and soups are very pleasant.
