Hungary

The Hungarian government fails to respect the rule of law and human rights. Journalists work in a hostile environment. Authorities threaten legislation targeting civil society organizations and universities, particularly those funded by George Soros. Roma face discrimination in housing, education, and public health care. Migrants and asylum seekers are the subject of publicly funded hate campaigns and face automatic and indefinite detention without a possibility to challenge their detention, violence during operations to force them back to the border, and limitations on meaningful access to asylum.

European People's Party should cut ties with Fidesz

Since April, Hungary’s governing party, Fidesz, has pursued discriminatory laws and policies against perceived critics, civil society and asylum seekers. These actions fly in the face of European values.
Fidesz is a member of the largest pan-European party, the European People’s Party (EPP). The EPP is founded on respect for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Instead of respecting those values, Fidesz has repeatedly undermined them since it came to power in 2010.
