Two newlyweds from St Austell have received an apology from holiday operator Thomson after they found a rat in their hotel room fridge in Turkey.
Abi and Mark Thornton said they were shocked to discover not only the rodent but its droppings and urine on a celebratory bottle of champagne in their room, back in May.
Abi, 26, said: "I went to reception and had to repeat twice that there was a rat in the fridge in our room... she sent a maintenance worker to my room who was laughing and holding a broom."
Thomson has apologised to the couple and a spokesman said: "We'd like to reassure customers that we regularly audit all of the hotels we feature in respect of health and safety, including hygiene."

A spokesperson for Thomson said: "We would like to apologise to Mr and Mrs Thornton for their experience, especially when it was for such a special occasion.
"We would like to thank the customers for bringing this to our attention and we are investigating the matter fully."
