GOVERNMENT
National Recruitment Legislation and Practice
Besides civilian police, San Marino maintains two small military units, the Gendarmerie and the Guardie di Rocca.1640 There is no compulsory military service but citizens between 16 and 55 years may be enlisted in certain circumstances to defend the State.1641
