According to Le Monde Diplomatique, the Justice Minister, the Sheik Abdel Wahab El Dailami, has temporarily renounced the dismissal of female judges (Le Monde Diplomatique May 1995). However, the same source mentions that the Justice Minister is convinced that female judges are totally incompetent in the matter of Islamic legislation (ibid.) For more information on the above-mentioned subject, please refer to pages 1195 and 1198 of Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 1994 that are available at Regional Documentation Centres.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
