The following information was obtained during a 16 April 1998 telephone interview with the Refugee Service Coordinator at Vive Inc: An Organization for World Refugees, located at 50 Wyoming Ave.,  Buffalo (NY).

The coordinator confirmed that the organization is located at the address given above. Vive was founded in 1984 to provide assistance to refugees, mainly from Central America. Shortly after its opening, it widened its assistance to refugees from all parts of the world. It moved to the current location in 1991. The organization is funded by charitable organizations and individuals and receives financial assistance from the State of New York. Its staff is composed of 20 individuals, some of whom work on a part time basis. Vive is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and can provide shelter to between 100 to 115 individuals.

Its mandate is to assist political refugees in making their claims for asylum in Canada by explaining to them the functioning of the immigration system and by referring them to the proper authorities to process their case.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
