According to statistics available on the official Website of the Jehovah's Witnesses, there were 2,076 Jehovah Witnesses in Fiji in 2001 (Watchtower 2002).

No information on the treatment of Jehovah's Witnesses by Indo-Fijians or native Fijians or the mainstream Methodist Church could be found among the sources consulted.

However, the following information may be of interest. A September 2002 Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited news report stated that the annual three-day Jehovah's Witnesses's convention was to be held at the National Stadium in Suva on 27 September 2002 (FBCL 27 Sept. 2002). The convention, at which "thousands of delegates" were expected to attend, was to be open to the general public (ibid.). Similar conventions were to held in Lautoka and Labasa in October 2002 (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
