Russia's prosecutor-general says Belarus has agreed to extradite the chief executive of Russian potash producer Uralkali, who was arrested in Minsk in August.

A statement from the Prosecutor-General's Office said Vladislav Baumgertner will be detained upon his extradition. There has been no confirmation from Minsk.

Baumgertner was arrested after the collapse of a joint venture with a Belarusian state company. Belarusian authorities charged him with abuse of office and placed him under house arrest in Minsk.

The news about his extradition came after Suleiman Kerimov agreed to sell his nearly 22 percent stake in Uralkali to billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov.

Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka had demanded Kerimov sell his stake in Uralkali as a condition for freeing Baumgertner. Lukashenka has also called for the restoration of the Russian-Belarusian company, which controlled 40 percent of the global potash market.
