Local Integration Brief for Tanzania

In September 2014, the moratorium on naturalization and local integration of the 1972 Burundi refugees hosted in Ulyankulu, Mishamo and Katumba Settlements (Old Settlements) was lifted and a directive given by the then President of Tanzania that the newly naturalized Tanzanians (162,256 individuals) be issued with their citizenship certificates. The suspension on the local integration programme had been imposed by the Government of Tanzania (GoT) in June 2011 with the intention to review various concerns on the programme.
