A Somali professor of public administration at the University of Syracuse stated that Somalia is about 99% Muslim (18 Oct. 1994). He stated that there was a Catholic Church in Mogadishu serving mainly the expatriate community but given the present circumstances of civil war and anarchy in Mogadishu, the professor stated that he did not know whether the church was still existent or not (ibid.).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
