On World Refugee Day, held every year on June 20th, we commemorate the strength, courage and resilience of millions of refugees. World Refugee Day is our primary opportunity to amplify and engage the public with UNHCR’s global public advocacy campaign, #WithRefugees.
The #WithRefugees campaign expresses solidarity with people forced to flee.
In Kenya, World Refugee Day will be marked in Dadaab refugee camp, Kakuma refugee camp and Nairobi.
UNHCR Kicks-off World Refugee Day Activities with a Debate on Refugee Contribution to the Local Economy
Refugees in Kenya’s capital will be showcasing and selling their products throughout the week (14 June 2017 – 20 June 2017) at Alliance Française, the French Cultural Centre.
The products being sold include handmade items such as bags, jewellery, paintings, African wear, carvings and other creative handicrafts made by about thirty refugees and Kenyan exhibitors who are supported by UNHCR.
The exhibition clearly depicts the efforts of refugees to be self-sufficient by earning a livelihood from their skills and talents.

UNHCR launched the #WithRefugees petition in June 2016, we are turning to governments around the world, calling for them to work together and to make their fair share available to refugees.
The #WithRefugees petition was handed over to the UN headquarters in New York on 19 September 2016, before the UN World Summit on Refugees and Migrants.
