Khaled Hosseini tells his refugee Story

Acclaimed American author Khaled Hosseini knows what it’s like to be a refugee. He was a teenager living in Paris, where his father worked as an Afghan diplomat, when the Soviet Union invaded his homeland on Christmas Eve 1979.
UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Khaled Hosseini contributed this short video to the 2013 Refugee Congress, a meeting in Washington, DC., in which former refugees from Syria, Iraq, Rwanda and 20 other nations, all of whom now call the U.S. home, gathered to meet policymakers and to ensure the refugee voice is part of the conversation on U.S. refugee policies and programs. In this video, Khaled speaks of the value of refugee stories, and the importance of sharing these accounts of flight with the wider community.
