Legal Assistance through Refugee Clinics

Legal Assistance through Refugee Clinics (LARC) was a project of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee operating between 2001 and 2005. Supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), it was created to strengthen the effective legal protection of refugees and asylum seekers in Central and Eastern Europe by building the capacity of refugee law clinics, their professionals, and students. To achieve this goal, LARC organized skills development events and professional consultations, as well as facilitated a network of clinicians.

As many refugee law clinics have reached sustainability and are now independent and professional organizations, from 2006 the LARC project no longer exists in its original form to support them. Instead, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee works with these clinics as partners in various regional refugee projects. In addition, the Committee continues to organize and host the Annual International Asylum Law Moot Court Competition for clinicians, and it publishes the Refugee Law Reader - the first-ever online curriculum in international asylum law. Website: www.larc.info/
