Cash Assistance and Coordination:

 Aid agencies increasingly use cash-based interventions to meet the needs of refugees and other people of concern. In many situations, cash gives freedom of choice to recipients while reducing operational costs for assistance providers. Cash and cash alternatives can provide a more dignified way of assisting people. Traditionally cash has not been considered a response “sector” but, rather, a modality for assistance. Cash is a cross-cutting assistance modality. Because of the increasing emphasis on cash assistance and the inherent challenges that come with ensuring effective coordination, the Toolkit comes with a brief, standalone chapter on cash assistance and coordination.
