No mention of fighting in Las Anod, who controls the town, or refugees returning to the area in 1998 could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. However,  However, the UNCT (United Nations Country Team) Somalia Monitor, posted on the Internet, states in six issues in 1998, dated 9-16 January, 17-25 January, 27 January-1 February, 3-8 February, 9-15 February, and 16-22 February, that "UN international staff road travel to Las Anod and Erigavo is restricted."

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints.
