According to Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2001, in 20021, "members of minority groups [Bantu, Benadiri, Rer Hamar, Brawanese, Swahili, Tumal, Yibir, Yaxar, Madhiban, Hawrarsame, and Faqayaqub] continued to be subjected to killings, harassment, intimidation, and abuse by armed gunmen of all affiliations" (Mar. 2002).
