Please note that the Karachi-based English-monthly publication The Herald made no mention of MQM (Haqiqi) but only MQM and Haq Parast Group (HPG) (the political wing of the MQM (Altaf)) candidates in its articles on the February 1997 National and Provincial Assembly elections (The Herald Feb. 1997a, 87-89; ibid. Please also note that none of the election results consulted by the Research Directorate provide the names of MQM (Haqiqi) candidates, but only MQM or Haq Parast Group candidates: please consult PAK26432.E of 28 February 1997 for a breakdown of the 3 February 1997 election results by province and party. PAK26468.E of 28 February 1997 provides a list of the successful candidates in the 3 February 1997 National Assembly elections and PAK26467.E of 28 February 1997 provides a list of the successful candidates in the 3 February 1997 Provincial Assembly elections. For information on the seats won by the Haq Parast Group, please consult PAK29136.E of 3 April 1998.
