Information specific to the present government's treatment of family members of former government employees is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa. However, according to a report broadcast on the Voice of Ethiopia Network (25 Jan. 1992), detained senior officers in the former government of deposed president Mengistu Haile Mariam had appealed to the Transitional Government for release stating that "their arrests had caused many problems to their families" (Ibid. 10). The Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRC) reportedly expressed concern over the hardship said to be suffered by families of former Dergue-WPE officials who have been moved from one detention center to another at random (ENA 13 Feb. 1992, 8).

The IRBDC in Ottawa is not in a position to interpret what constitutes "suffering" as stated in the references.
