No information on a law passed in the early 1980s that permitted for a military discharge certificate to be issued by an individual who had served one year in the Sepah Pasdaran could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

According to the Director of the Foundation For Iranian Studies in Bethesda, Maryland, the Sepah Pasdaran is a military organization that was created to ultimately replace the Iranian military, an objective that was abandonned during the Iran-Iraq War (13 Nov. 1998).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
