BAKU – An Azerbaijani border officer was killed during a shootout along the Azerbaijani-Iranian frontier.
Baku says the incident took place on the evening of December 1 in the country's southern province of Lankaran.
The shootout followed an attempted border-crossing by several individuals in a vehicle from Iran.
Major Maqsud Nagiyev, 37, was shot and killed in the incident.
Two other officers were hospitalized.
No further details are available.
The latest incident follows the temporary closure last month of several crossings along the border between Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Naxcivan following an alleged shooting incident.
