Specific information on restrictions on business travel outside Iran by Iranian Baha'is could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB. However, the attached 20 August 1997 letter and 28 January 1997 document from the Baha'i Community of Canada refer to difficulties experienced by Iranian Baha'is in obtaining passports and travelling.

According to the 9 February 1997 report from Abdelfattah Amor, the United Nations Special Rapporteur to the Islamic Republic of Iran,

With regard to freedom of movement, including departure from the country and the issue of passports or exit visas, all Baha'is without exception face major obstacles. It should be noted that the religious affiliation must be specified on the passport application form (14).

For information on restrictions on the issuance of passports to Iranian Baha'is, please see Response to Information Request IRN23026.E of 8 February 1996.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
