The current Secretary General of the Sudan Human Rights Organization (SHRO) in Cairo made the following statement in correspondence dated 1 May 2001.

On who was the Secretary General of the SHRO on November 2000, the secretary general stated that:

Mr. Mohamed Hassan Daoud is the Secretary General of Sudan Human Rights' Organization (SHRO) Cairo since April 2000.

Before that date another colleague called Dr. Hamouda Fathalrahman was the Secretary General. In fact he was the Secretary General since January 1992 till the end of March 2000. He left Egypt since then to the States.

On whether the SHRO had any offices in Canada or in any other country,

the secretary general stated that:

SHRO - Cairo does not have an office or representative in Canada, but there may be a branch of SHRO. You know SHRO was originally based in Khartoum, Sudan, till June 1989 when the military regime banned it along with other civil society organizations. Some SHRO activists re-established it in London in 1990, and in late 1991 an other group of activists and SHRO members established a branch in Egypt. SHRO activists in some other countries also organized groups or small offices.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
