An exiled Iranian opposition group has criticized the United States for not doing enough to help victims of clashes at a dissident camp in Iraq.
At a news conference in Brussels today, Mohammad Mohadessin, a representative of the People's Mujahedin Organization of Iran (aka Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization, or MKO), asked the United Nations to establish a permanent monitoring team at Camp Ashraf.
More than 30 people were killed in April in violence between Iraqi security forces and residents at the camp, some 65 kilometers from Baghdad.
The United States, which says the group is a terrorist organization, has turned the camp over to the Iraqi government.
Rights group Amnesty International says the 3,000 residents at the camp are subject to harassment by the Iraqi government and are denied access to basic medicine.
