Please refer to the attachments for the relevant sections of the Surinam military penal code and sections 96 and 97 of the Suriname penal code, translated from the original Dutch. These sections were provided by a Surinamese Attorney at Law who has served as a public prosecutor for a number of years and has handled several military cases.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
