A search conducted by the Embassy of Australia in Washington was unsuccessful in locating this parlicular decision within the required time frame. However, the embassy sent DIRB the attached facsimile of the response provided by the competent Australian authorities. This response indicates that in March 1992 two Chinese nationals seeking asylum in Australia on the grounds of their sexual orientation (homosexuality) were denied convention refugee status (Government of Australia 29 Mar. 1993). However, the two applicants were granted refugee 'sur place' status on the grounds that they might face retaliation for their political activities in Australia (Ibid.)

No further information on the above-mentioned topic is currently available to the DIRB in Ottawa.
