Please find attached a document in English provided by the Commercial Section of the Embassy of Spain in Ottawa, last updated in July 1997, that describes the various forms of property ownership provided for by law in Spain. The document is an excerpt from a series of books on legislation of different countries prepared by groups or firms of lawyers and published in the United States. In addition to the attached, a representative of the Commercial Section provided the Reserach Directorate with a 20 October 1997 Spanish article from Spain's official gazette referring to a bill intended to regulate in detail the "time-share" property business (commonly known in Spain as multipropiedad), a form of property ownership that has been flourishing in resort areas around the world, by which the share of a property is generally sold by weeks of use per year, and not by a portion of the property itself. The representative indicated that this bill has, to the Section's most recent knowledge, not yet been approved and in effect; the bill is expected to undergo debate and amendments before it is finalized and approved.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
