1,2)    According to the Honorary Consul-General of Latvia in Toronto, pending final approval of the new nationality legislation by the Latvian Parliament, nothing currently indicates that the persons described above would be eligible for Latvian nationality unless their parents were nationals of Latvia before 1940 (1 Oct. 1992). The same source indicated that a person who was resident in Latvia has the right to return to Latvia and resume residence provided he/she is in possession of a USSR passport. This information cannot currently be corroborated by the DIRB.
