An official at the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Ottawa stated that the Permesso di Soggiorno can only be issued and renewed at local police stations in Italy (17 July 1996). For more information on the right to leave and return to Italy with a Permesso di Soggiorno, please refer to Response to Information Request ITA18437.E of 31 October 1994.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
