Official statistics indicate that there are 100 Serbs and Montenegrins in Albania (RFE 13 Dec. 1991, 3; Minnesota Lawyers International Human Rights Committee Jan. 1990, 112). However, a report in The Times indicates that Yugoslavia has claimed that there are at least 50,000 Serbs and Montenegrins in Albania (7 Mar. 1991). In March 1991, the Tanjug news agency reportedly indicated that Albania would permit approximately 25,000 ethnic Serbs and Montenegrins to leave Albania (Reuters 6 Mar. 1991). A later report indicates that more than 1000 ethnic Serbs and Montenegrins left Albania (Independent 11 March 1991).
