Information on labour problems at a workplace known as Industrias Pacer in or around July 1993 could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB. Please find attached some documents that refer to a strike at a company in Honduras that took place in September 1993 in a factory called Paraiso (please note that the Spanish pronunciation of Paraiso might sound somewhat similar to the word Pacer). The attachments describe the unrest as the first attempt at unionizing a "maquila" factory, mention the involvement of CODEH and the Independent Federation of Honduran Workers (FITH), and indicate that the unrest was triggered by the dismissal of union members and pregnant women, among other alleged abuses. The dates of the dismissals are not given by the sources. Please consult the attached documents for further details.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
