According to an official at the Egyptian embassy in Ottawa, the marriage of a non-Egyptian male to an Egyptian female does not confer any residence rights and does not facilitate any application for Egyptian nationality (19 May 1995). The official added that there are no guarantees that a non-Egyptian man married to an Egyptian woman would be allowed to reside in Egypt (ibid.).
This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
