An official of the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Ottawa told the DIRB during an interview at the embassy that citizenship in Burkina Faso is regulated by the March 1993 Code des personnes et de la famille (13 Feb. 1995). The official stated that a child born of either a father or a mother who is citizen of Burkina Faso is automatically a citizen of Burkina Faso. For further information on the right to Burkina Faso citizenship, please consult the attached document.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
