For information on the above-mentioned subject, please see the attached 12 August 1997 letter to the DIRB from the High Commission for the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

An official at the High Commission for Barbados told the DIRB in an 8 August 1997 telephone interview that under Barbadian law, citizens of St. Vincent can acquire Barbadian citizenship without having to renounce their St. Vincentian citizenship.

For information on the law of Barbados with regard to citizenship, please see the citizenship law of Barbados in the REFLEG database, accessible through REFWORLD, and the section on Barbados in Constitutions of the Countries of the World, available at Regional Documentation Centres.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
