Over the past half century, the population of the European States has changed drastically as a result of decolonization and economic integration. This change has led to challenges and opportunities for European societies. Studying this situation may contribute, on the one hand, to new or more refined social, legal and historical theory; while, on the other hand, fundamental research may contribute to seizing opportunities or solving existing problems.  Website: www.vu.nl/nl/over-de-vu/instituten-en-stichtingen/instituten/mdc/index.asp
