In late December 1998 TamilNet mentioned Veppankulam camp for IDPs (24 Dec. 1998) and Inter Press Service (IPS) refers to Veppamkulam camp in Vavuniya in February 1999 (2 Feb. 1999). According to IPS, in February 1999 there were 11 government-run welfare centres and a transit camp in Vavuniya (ibid.).

No additional information updating that provided in LKA30171.E of 6 October 1998 on Veppankulam transit camp in Vavuniya, nor on who controls the camp nor the type of uniforms worn by camp employees, could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
