An Official at the Embassy of Nicaragua in Ottawa stated during an 18 December 1996 telephone interview that a child with at least one Nicaraguan parent will be recognized as a Nicaraguan citizen provided he/she registers as a Nicaraguan citizen at the nearest Nicaraguan embassy or consulate before he/she reaches the age of 21.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
