No specific information on the age requirements for participation in the Mohajir movement was found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC. Two articles, however, allude to the youthfulness of the militants. The Mohajir movement rose in 1986 in Karachi as an expression of the "resentments of the largest population group". [ Henry Kamm, "By the Sea, a City Bursts with Squalor and Rage", The New York Times, 19 April 1988.] It "formulated the demands of the children and grandchildren of the Indian Moslems who fled [to Pakistan] in 1947". [ Ibid.] If grandchildren are involved, these would be in their teens or early twenties. The leader of the movement, Mr. Altaf Hussain, is 35. [ Ibid.] In a report covering the violence which occurred in Karachi in October 1988, the combatants (Mohajirs and Sindhis) are referred to as "youths".
