In a 5 March 1998 telephone interview, an official at the Embassy of Ecuador in Ottawa stated that nothing has changed in Ecuador regarding military service since 1993.

However, specific information on whether homosexuality is a reason to exempt someone from military service in Ecuador could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
