According to a report from TASS on the emigration of the Russian-speaking population from the Baltic States, 13,000 people emigrated from Latvia in 1991, and 8,500 left in the first six months of 1992 (9 Oct. 1992). It is unclear from the report whether these statistics refer only to the number of Russians leaving Latvia or to the total number of emigrants.
An article in Monitor indicates that according to the Latvian State Statistics Committee, 17,300 persons left Latvia during the first half of 1992, a 170% increase over the same period in the previous year (4 Aug. 1992).
Additional and/or corroborative information is not currently available to the DIRB.
