In an 18 November 1998 e-mail, the IRB Liaison Officer at the Refugees Branch of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in Ottawa stated that the Canadian visitor visa requirement for South Koreans was lifted on 1 May 1994 and had not been reinstated.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
