An attempted coup d'état against the government of President Gnassigbe Eyadema was carried out 23-24 September 1986 (Keesing's 1987 1987, 35110). According to Amnesty International,

Thirteen people were sentenced to death...in all 35 people were charged, including several nationals of neighbouring states, but 10 of them were tried in absentia. Of the defendants in court, 10 were sentenced to death, seven were sentenced to life imprisonment, five received sentences of up to one year's imprisonment and three others were acquitted (Ibid., 113).

These reports, however, do not mention the name of Affo Sangabo or Ibrahim Ibouriam. For further information on the coup attempt, please refer to the attached document. Other information on this subject is currently unavailable to the Documentation, Information, and Research Branch (DIRB) in Ottawa.
