TBILISI – Georgia will not extradite Russian army deserter Sergeant Aleksandr Glukhov, RFE/RL's Russian service reports.
Shota Utiashvili, a spokesperson for Georgia's Interior Affairs Ministry, told RFE/RL that Glukhov would not be extradited until the issue of his political asylum is resolved.
Russia's Military Prosecutor General Sergey Fridinsky said earlier on March 17 that investigations are under way into Glukhov's desertion of his military unit.
Glukhov left his unit in South Ossetia in January and entered Georgian territory, where he asked for political asylum.
The Russian military originally stated that Glukhov was kidnapped by Georgian secret services.
