Comments This is an unofficial translation. Constitution of the Republic of Iraq, as ratified by public referendum on 15 October 2005, available at the United States Institute for Peace website at https://www.usip.org/ruleoflaw/projects/ unami_iraq_constitution.pdf (unofficial English-language translation prepared by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq). The Constitution entered into force upon the seating of a constitutionally-elected Government in mid-June. Thereafter, the Constitution remained subject to amendment for a four-month period, and confirmation from OCS needs to be given on the official start date of this term. The amendment process seems to have been sidelined in recent violence and debate over the Draft Law on the Formation of Regions. Basically, the Constitution is in force and the status of constitutionally-required amendments is unclear.
