On April 18, the Supreme Court of Justice upheld a three-month suspended prison sentence against Gustavo Escanlar Patrone, host of the satirical television program "Bendita TV" (Blessed TV). The decision let stand a 2006 criminal defamation conviction by a lower court in Montevideo, the journalist's lawyer, Edison Lanza, told CPJ. The case stemmed from a January 2006 interview on the Canal 10 television program "La Culpa es Mía," in which Escanlar referred to a media company owner by using a vulgarity.
