As discussed by telephone on 23 July 1990, specific references to the situation of Chileans, Paraguayans and Uruguayans residing in Argentina after the 1976 coup and in November 1985 could not be found among the sources currently available to the IRBDC.

Also as discussed by telephone, please find attached a copy of some documents which report on the refugee and refugee-claimant inflow from Chile into Argentina in 1985 and early 1986, as well as the resurgence of "right-wing" terrorist groups and attacks in Argentina in 1985. The attached documents include the following:

-World Refugee Survey: 1985 in Review (Washington, D.C.: U. S. Committee for Refugees, 1986), p. 57;

-World Refugee Survey: 1986 in Review (1987), p. 59;

-from Latin American Weekly Report (London, Latin American Newsletters): 17 May 1985, p. 12 (backcover); 7 June 1985, p. 2; 20 September 1985, p. 2; 1 November 1985, p. 1; 13 December 1985, p. 12 (backcover).

In addition to the attached documents, the 1986 International Yearbook on International Communist Affairs, (Stanford: Hoover Institution Press, 1986), p. 47, states:

"A resurgence of terrorist incidents throughout the country -primarily bombings of the headquarters of both left and right parties- was attributed by the government to paramilitary groups that had functioned in the 1970s with the connivance of the ruling junta and its intelligence organizations."
