A representative of Tchad-Solidarités-France stated in a 28 April 1999 telephone interview that the arrest of family members of opposition members continues to occur in Chad. However, he stated that it is not a routine practice but rather one that typically befalls the families of leaders of the opposition. He stated that he had seen several recent reports of these arrests in Chadian newspapers.
