SANA’A – As efforts intensify to avert famine in Yemen, the United Kingdom has stepped up its support to the World Food Programme (WFP) by providing a contribution which will deliver life-saving food assistance for more than two million people in the country.

Urgent Funding Needed To Reverse Food Ration Cuts For Refugees In Tanzania

KIGOMA - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has been forced to reduce food rations for 320,000 refugees in Mtendeli, Nduta and Nyarugusu Camps in northwest Tanzania as a result of funding shortfalls. WFP urgently requires US$23.6 million from now through to December 2017 to be able to continue meeting the food and nutritional needs of refugees in Tanzania.

WFP Distributes Food To Thousands Hit By Flash Floods In Nepal

KATHMANDU – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has begun food distributions to 180,000 people in response to the Nepal floods. The tragedy has affected 1.7 million people, with nearly 461,000 of them displaced from their homes and in desperate need of assistance . The distributions are going on as the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) warns of more floods in coming days.

South Africa Donates US$615,000 To Sierra Leone Disaster Response

JOHANNESBURG – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed this week’s announcement of a US$615,000 (ZAR 8 million) contribution from the Government of South Africa that will help us provide vital emergency assistance to more than 10,000 people affected by mudslides and flooding in Sierra Leone.

Spain Helps WFP To Support People Affected By Mosul Conflict

MADRID – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed a contribution of €700,000 (US$790,000) from the Government of Spain that will be used to provide food assistance for some 34,000 people affected by the recent conflict in Mosul, Iraq.

Child Killed When WFP-Contracted Aircraft Hits House In South Sudan

JUBA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said today that a child was killed when a WFP-contracted aircraft hit a house while attempting to land during a thunderstorm in Juba on Tuesday. Four other people – a boy, a girl and two women – were injured during the incident.

New study examines links between emigration and food insecurity in the Dry Corridor of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras
