According to the Counsel of the Albanian Embassy in Washington, the authorities began issuing passports in the summer of 1990 when there was a mass exodus from Albania (12 June 1996). In 1995, these passports began to expire and are being replaced by new passports issued in 1995 (ibid.). For additional information on the requested topic please consult Responses to Information Requests ALB21890.E and ALB22187.E available in your Regional Documentation Centre.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
