People with Disabilities

All forcibly displaced people face challenges. However, people living with physical or mental disability face more challenges because they are less able to participate actively in making decisions that concern them and are less likely to have their protection needs met.

UNHCR Kenya prioritizes assistance to refugees and other persons of concern living with disabilities. In its operations, it consults and involves persons with disabilities in decision making, programming, and leadership, giving them the means to voice their opinions and participate in the design, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of activities. UNHCR also works closely with partners to build their capacities and to enable the community to provide meaningful support.
